French Naval Officer Sword, M1843.

French Naval Officer Sword, M1843. Sabre d'Officier De Marine. Second Empire, Modèle 1843. Second Empire period. Chased gilded bronze frame with knucklebow-hilt, openwork branch and decorated with foliage scrolls and crowned anchor. Horn grip with oblique grooves and twisted copper wire. Curved and single-edge blade with round back brought to the tip. This sword comes with a black leather sheath (minor wear) with three chiseled gilt bronze fittings decorated with crowned anchor and reeds. Shell clevis button. Frans Sabel voor Officier der Marine. 2e Keizerrijk, 19e eeuw. Gemerkt op de klingrug: ‘Coulaux & Cie, Klingenthal’. Fraai verguld bronzen beugelgevest en pareerschijf versierd met reliëf van gewikkeld koord, bladranken en anker. Hoornen greep horizontale ribben en licht gewelfde pommelkap. Licht gebogen, enkelsnijdige kling met brede dubbele geulen. Met sabelkwast en zwart lederen schede (lichte gebruikssporen) met 3-delig verguld messing beslag en draagring. Lengte: 88 cm. [II-]
