Rare French "Cavalier de Gendarmerie Nationale" Sword, M1783

Rare French "Cavalier de Gendarmerie Nationale" Sword, M1783 Sabre de Cavalier de Gendarmerie Nationale, Modèle 1783. Directoire. Used during the French Revolution (1789 – 1799). A fine example of a "Cavalier de Gendarmerie Nationale" Battle Sword with gilt bronze furniture, decorated with a distinctive shell guard pattern and braid wire grip. Wearing a large straight unfullered blade of exceptional thickness and having a long false edge tip area. The sword comes with a well survived black leather sheath with brass mounts. Zeldzaam Frans Sabel voor bereden Gendarmerie, M1783 ‘Sabre de Cavalier de Gendarmerie Nationale, Modèle 1783. Directoire’ Gebruikt tijdens de Franse Revolutie (1781 - 1810). Met verguld beugelgevest met schelpvormig reliëf boven de pareerstang. De houten greep met een vlakke pommel-kap en gewikkeld met gevlochten koperdraad. Lange, rechte enkel snijdige kling. Sabel met zwartlederen schede en messing monturen. Lengte: 97 cm. [II]
