Reclining female nude, ca. 1985.
Crayon and chalk on paper
unsigned.
55 x 79 cm. ( 21 5/8 x 31 1/8 in.)
Provenance:
Dutch Private Collection.
Note:
Eef de Weerd (1926-1989) was a trailblazer in the realm of contemporary painting, forging his own unique path amidst prevailing trends. His journey was characterized by vibrant and richly colourful artwork, yet it refrained from exuberant emotional outpourings. Instead, de Weerd maintained a disciplined restraint over the tensions within himself, achieving a remarkable balance that infused his work with passion. In his oil paintings and pastels, color and form harmonized seamlessly, creating a rhythmic composition devoid of restlessness. Each plane interconnected with clarity, though in his earlier works, these planes were delineated sharply. However, in his later pieces, the stark black lines all but vanished, suggesting de Weerd's acknowledgment of the evolving nature of artistic expression and the necessity of growth in forging one's own path towards the future.
